Golden Globes: Annette Bening finally gives a winning speech

When the current awards season began a few months ago, Annette Bening gave one of her typically b-o-r-i-n-g acceptance speeches at the Hollywood Film Festival. Even though many Oscarologists were calling ‘The Kids Are All Right’ star a front-runner to win her overdue Academy Award, it looked like she might blow it big time again by staging snoozefests on podiums along the way.

Bening is famous, or rather infamous, for giving lousy acceptance speeches, which can really be disastrous at the Golden Globes show because of its high visibility. When Oscar voters see you bomb there, they are less likely to want to invite you to stand on their stage, of course. The last time Bening lost an Oscar was for ‘Being Julia,’ which earned her the Golden Globe for comedy/musical actress in 2004. Her acceptance speech then was a dull snoozefest of blah, blah, blah thank-yous. See the video below.

Sunday, however, Bening was charming and well-spoken while accepting the Globe. Her best line was her big finale as she thanked ‘the 1962 winner of the Golden Globe for most promising actor, my husband, Warren Beatty.’
